Work at the Institute

The core activities of our Institute are firstly the investigation and implementation of new ophthalmological conservative and surgical treatment methods, specifically in the field of cataract surgery, and secondly the attention paid to the optimisation and advancement of the training and further training of young doctors, and the communication of the basic knowledge needed for scientific work in the field of ophthalmology.

Current research programmes
  • Determination of the OP quality statistics of the Hietzing Hospital Ophthalmology Department (since 2007)
  • Implementation of a process management system at the Hietzing Hospital Ophthalmology Department (since 07/2008)
  • Effect of tilt and decentration on visual quality after implantation of two different aspherical intra-ocular lenses: a bilateral comparative study (since 04/2013)
  • Long-term results with toric IOL (since 09/2013)
  • Eylea with Lucentis/Avastin non-responders (since 11/2013)
  • Comparative analysis of the refractive and aberrometric outcome after implantation of two different multifocal intra-ocular lenses (since 10/2014)
  • Cataract questionnaire study, reevaluation (since 11/2014)
  • Evaluation of postoperative astigmatism correction and postoperative rotation stability of two toric intra-ocular lenses (since 07/2012)
  • A 12-month, phase IV, randomized, open label, multicenter study to compare the efficacy of 0.5 mg ranibizumab PRN versus 2 mg aflibercept bimonthly intravitreal injections on retinal thickness stability till month 6 of treatment, and to explore functional outcomes up to month 12 in patients with neovascular (wet) age-related macular degeneration (AMD) – SALT (since 11/2014)
